UMD COVID-19 Positive Test Results

This dashboard has two sources of data. The top portion shows results from ongoing COVID-19 testing administered by UMD Health Services to students. The bottom information is provided by the Minnesota Department of Health. This dashboard was updated every Friday through the end of the spring 2022 semester. Beginning March 3, 2022, the Minnesota Department of Health no longer provides COVID data for the University of Minnesota campuses.

Beginning March 3, 2022, the Minnesota Department of Health no longer provides COVID data for the University of Minnesota campuses.

Case Totals

Due to limited resources, MDH data on campus community members and positive cases while on campus are limited in scope and accuracy.
These data are collected by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) as part of routine infectious disease reporting. In Minnesota, case reporting is required by healthcare providers and laboratories.
Case totals provided by MDH include those who were tested at UMD Health Services as well as those tested elsewhere. There are, therefore, duplicate case counts when comparing these data with data displayed elsewhere on this dashboard.
Individuals with positive COVID-19 test results reported to MDH are asked to voluntarily self-report their University of Minnesota Duluth affiliation to be counted in these totals. Not all individuals who have an association with the University of Minnesota Duluth may have disclosed their affiliation.

On Campus Activity During Window of Infectiousness and Contact Tracing

All reported cases are interviewed by a public health representative to determine the infectious window period. They are also interviewed about their activities during that time to determine the need for contact tracing. Activities defined by MDH as “being on campus” include working on campus, attending any University sponsored event, using any campus facility, or visiting someone in campus housing.
Persons in close contact with someone with COVID-19 (defined as closer than 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) are notified of exposure by public health representatives, asked to quarantine for 14 days, and are offered testing.

Case Address Information

Address data are collected at the time of testing and confirmed by public health representatives during an interview.
MDH defines “living on campus” as self-reporting an address considered to be University-owned housing.
Per our campus COVID-19 response plan, UMD works with all students to review their isolation and quarantine needs and to support adherence to public health precautions. Students in University housing are offered dedicated isolation and quarantine spaces as part of their housing contracts. Off-campus students receive isolation support, as needed, from local public health partners depending on the county of their residence.
